Allen County-Scottsville and Franklin-Simpson are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2017, but likely not for long. While Allen County-Scottsville didn't have the best season last year (they finished 14-22), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They blew past Glasgow 12-1 on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Patriots, who have now won six matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Maddie Gray was incredible, firing off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Payton Hopkins, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
Allen County-Scottsville hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most two strikeouts in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Franklin-Simpson came up short against Butler County on Thursday and fell 6-1. The Wildcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Franklin-Simpson saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lilly Ferguson, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Allen County-Scottsville's victory was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-0. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Franklin-Simpson, their loss dropped their record down to 6-3-1.
Saturday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Allen County-Scottsville hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .442. However, it's not like Franklin-Simpson struggles in that department as they've averaged .335. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
