Baseball Game Preview: North Polars vs. Como Park Cougars

The North Polars will take on the Como Park Cougars at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. North has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the match with eight straight defeats, while Como Park will come in with three straight victories.

North fell victim to New Richmond and their airtight pitching crew on Saturday. They lost 10-0 to the Tigers.

Meanwhile, Como Park got themselves on the board against Harding on Friday, but Harding never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Knights with a sharp 18-0 win. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four contests by 14 runs or more this season.

Brendan Avant made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Avant was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of Como Park's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-5 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Daniel Silverio was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Eli Savolainen, who went 2-for-5 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

Como Park always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .585. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

North's loss dropped their record down to 1-11. As for Como Park, the victory got them back to even at 5-5.

Everything went North's way against Como Park when the teams last played back in May of 2023, as North made off with a 15-0 win. Do the Polars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cougars turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
