Basketball Recap: Wildwood Comes Up Short

Wildwood was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They took a hard 58-42 fall against the Gloucester Catholic Rams. The Warriors were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Rams earlier this season, when they won 64-59.

Despite the loss, Wildwood saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Nolan Mawhinney went 8 for 16 on his way to 19 points and six rebounds. That's the most boards Mawhinney has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Brian Cunniff, who posted nine points and six rebounds.

Even though they lost, Wildwood smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

Wildwood's defeat dropped their record down to 5-12. As for Gloucester Catholic, their victory bumped their record up to 7-9.

Wildwood didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, an 85-31 win against Salem County Vo-Tech on the 6th. Gloucester Catholic has also already played their next match (against Pitman), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
