Basketball Game Preview: Ninilchik Wolverines vs. Minto Lakers

The Ninilchik Wolverines and the Minto Lakers will face off at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday without much rest, having both just played. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Ninilchik is headed into the game having just posted their closest win since December 21, 2024 on Friday. They skirted past Kenai Central 56-53. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Wolverines.

Meanwhile, Minto sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 51-48 victory over North Pole on Friday.

Ninilchik better keep an eye on Jeffery Frank III. He was instrumental in Minto's win, putting up 21 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nicholas Roberts Jr., who posted 11 points.

Minto's win bumped their record up to 2-0. Ninilchik has also opened the season with a perfect 2-0 record.

Ninilchik strolled past Minto in their previous meeting back in February of 2017 by a score of 74-55. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wolverines since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
