Baseball Game Preview: Portsmouth Trojans vs. Ironton Fighting Tigers

The Portsmouth Trojans are taking a road trip to take on the Ironton Fighting Tigers at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Portsmouth had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 11-run drubbing they dealt Dawson-Bryant on Wednesday. The Trojans blew past the Hornets 13-2. Winning may never get old, but the Trojans sure are getting used to it with their sixth in a row.

Trevin Brooks made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out seven batters over 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, J.T. Williams was incredible, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. Braxton Carr was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Portsmouth was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .423. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Meanwhile, Ironton strolled into their game on Tuesday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They put the hurt on Dawson-Bryant with a sharp 12-2 win.

Ironton pushed their record up to 8-0 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Portsmouth, their record is now 9-4.
