Baseball Recap: Almeta Crawford Drops Highest Score of Season Against La Marque

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Almeta Crawford). Their pitcher stepped up to hand the La Marque Cougars a 26-0 shutout on Friday. Winning may never get old, but the Chargers sure are getting used to it with their sixth in a row.

Logan Shields made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. That one hit allowed gave him a new career-low. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in four of his six plate appearances.

In other batting news, Shane Rourick was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Joey Garcia was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his six plate appearances.

Almeta Crawford always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .540. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Almeta Crawford pushed their record up to 13-3-3 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for La Marque, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Almeta Crawford will take on Huntsville at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Huntsville will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each match than the last. As for La Marque, they will face off against Stafford at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. La Marque's pitchers better be ready for this one: Stafford has averaged an impressive 8.4 runs per game this season.
