Basketball Recap: Rank Disadvantage No Problem for SPIRE Academy

On Saturday, the SPIRE Academy SPIRE strolled past the Medina Battling Bees with points to spare, taking the game 52-37. The win was all the more spectacular given the SPIRE's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 177th, while the Battling Bees are ranked 29th).

SPIRE Academy has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a massive bump to their 5-10 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.6 points over those games. As for Medina, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 17-5.

Coming up, SPIRE Academy will face off against Western Reserve Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Western Reserve Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 62.4 points per game this season. As for Medina, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against GlenOak at 7:00 p.m.
