Baseball Recap: Russell County Gets the Win

Russell County won the last time they faced Wayne County and things went their way on Thursday too. The Lakers came out on top against the Cardinals by a score of 6-2. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Lakers.

Blaine Melton looked comfortable as he struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits (and only one walk). Russell County is 5-1 when Melton allows one or fewer earned runs, but 10-19 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Russell County's victory was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Walker Stephens, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Russell County's record now sits at 15-20. As for Wayne County, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 19-12.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Russell County will take on South Warren at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Wayne County, they will head out to take on Madison Southern at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Eagles have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.51 runs per game on average), something the Cardinals will no doubt try to take advantage of.
