Softball Game Preview: Fairmont Senior Polar Bears vs. Philip Barbour Colts

Fairmont Senior is 0-7 against Philip Barbour since May of 2015 but things could change on Thursday. The Polar Bears will take on the Colts at 6:00 p.m. Fairmont Senior is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.9 runs per game this season.

On Wednesday, Fairmont Senior came up short against Lewis County and fell 9-6.

Fairmont Senior saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Camdyn Staron, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Philip Barbour started off well but failed to capitalize on an early lead against Petersburg. They fell just short of the Vikings by a score of 10-8 on Wednesday. The Colts haven't had much luck with the Vikings recently, as the team has come up short the last seven times they've met.

Avery McDaniel was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she pitched seven innings while giving up just two earned (and eight unearned) runs off seven hits. McDaniel was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

In other batting news, Katelyn Cooper made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two doubles. Payton Mcdaniel was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run.

Philip Barbour's defeat dropped their record down to 5-8-1. As for Fairmont Senior, they now have a losing record of 5-6.

Fairmont Senior might still be hurting after the 13-5 loss they got from Philip Barbour when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Can the Polar Bears avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
