Football Preview: Middletown Cavaliers vs. Atholton Raiders

The Middletown Cavaliers are on the road again on Friday to play the Atholton Raiders at 6:00 p.m. Both are strolling into their matches after big wins in their previous games.

Middletown's defense heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They blew past Odessa, posting a 35-0 win on the road. Given the Cavaliers' advantage in MaxPreps' Delaware football rankings (they are ranked fourth, while the Ducks are ranked 28th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Atholton won against River Hill two weeks ago with 27 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Friday. Atholton claimed a resounding 27-0 victory over Long Reach on the road. A big part of Atholton's victory came down to the chemistry between Tyler Bell and his top target Delbert Cowsette. Bell threw for 252 yards and three touchdowns on only 12 passes while Cowsette picked up 189 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Cowsette's longest reception was for an incredible 88 yards. Ja'Varr Stewart got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Atholton's defense was in the mix too, especially the secondary: they snagged two passes before it was all said and done. The picks came courtesy of Ayden Tilghman and Stewart.

Middletown now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Atholton, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-0.
