Basketball Recap: Ja'veon Sargent-Williams' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Kennedy over Aurora Central Catholic

Kennedy was the 72-56 winner over Aurora Central Catholic when they last played one another back in December of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. The Kennedy Crusaders fell to the Aurora Central Catholic Chargers 70-65. Even though they lost, the Crusaders' still made a splash on offense and bumped their average scoring up to 50.3 points per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).

Kennedy's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ja'Veon Sargent-Williams, who posted 24 points along with seven assists and six boards. The dominant performance gave Sargent-Williams a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Joseph Dahl, who went 7 of 10 on his way to 23 points and five rebounds.

Kennedy has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-11 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.3 points per game. As for Aurora Central Catholic, with the victory, they broke their 14-game losing streak and moved their record to 1-13.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Kennedy will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Longwood at 6:30 p.m. on January 7, 2025. Kennedy is facing Longwood at the right time seeing as Longwood is stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Aurora Central Catholic, they will square off against Nazareth Academy at 4:00 p.m. on January 4, 2025.
