Softball Recap: Annenberg Panthers vs. Orthopaedic Vipers
Annenberg had lost four straight at home dating back to last season, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 1-3 to make it five. They came up short against the Orthopaedic Vipers, falling 22-0. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Panthers' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
As for Orthopaedic, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 9-5. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by nine runs or more this season.
For Orthopaedic's part, Brianna Ramirez was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. Ramirez has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Natalie Garcia was incredible, going 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, four runs, and four RBI. She has been hot for a while, having posted at least one stolen base the last ten times she's played. Sandy Alvarado also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.
Coming up, Annenberg will welcome Central City Value at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Jaguars have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.33 runs per game on average), something the Panthers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Orthopaedic, they are taking a road trip to challenge Bernstein at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
