Basketball Recap: Jackson Central Merry's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Wednesday

It was a proper cat-fight when Jackson Central Merry took on Riverside on Wednesday. The Jackson Central Merry Cougars fell 64-52 to the Riverside Panthers. The Cougars' defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Riverside to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jack Cupples, who dropped a double-double with 16 points and ten boards. Riverside is 11-4 when Cupples posts ten or more rebounds, but 6-9 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Austin Shelton, who went 6-for-7 to rack up 17 points.

Jackson Central Merry's loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 7-6. As for Riverside, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-13 record this season.

Jackson Central Merry will challenge Westview at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Westview will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Jackson Central Merry surely won't give up without a fight. As for Riverside, they have already played their next game, a 67-63 defeat against Gibson County on the 1st.
