Softball Recap: Onekama Wins Going Away Against Suttons Bay

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Onekama). Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Suttons Bay Norsemen a 17-0 shutout on Tuesday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Portagers with their most commanding win of the season.

Hailey Hart made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Onekama let Karima Castillo and Heather Zielinski run wild. Castillo went 1-for-2 with three RBI, one run, and one double, while Zielinski went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That double marked the first that Castillo has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Brenna Johnson, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Onekama always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .643. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Onekama's victory bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Suttons Bay, they are on an eight-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.
