Softball Preview: Southwest DeKalb Panthers vs. St. Pius X Catholic Golden Lions

Southwest DeKalb has enjoyed the comforts of home their last three games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will take on the St. Pius X Catholic Golden Lions at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Southwest DeKalb's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed two weeks ago. They were the clear victor by a 20-0 margin over Druid Hills. The high-scoring effort was just what the Panthers needed considering they were shutout in their previous match.

Makayla Dixon made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and only one walk). Dixon was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a home run, two runs, and a triple.

In other batting news, Southwest DeKalb got a massive performance out of Madelyn Flournoy, who went 3-for-3 with two triples, three runs, and three RBI. Nyla Blair was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-3.

Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Southwest DeKalb lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in August of 2023.

Meanwhile, St. Pius X Catholic had already won 13 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.9 runs) and they went ahead and made it 14 on Saturday. Everything went their way against the Titans as they made off with a 10-1 win.

Southwest DeKalb's victory ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 10-8. As for St. Pius X Catholic, their win was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 18-3.
