Baseball Recap: Windom Find Success

For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last five times Windom and Redwood Valley have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Tuesday. The Eagles came out on top against the Cardinals by a score of 4-1. The victory continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Cardinals: they've now won three in a row.

Charles Erickson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up 14 Ks.

On the hitting side, Hayden Tietz was excellent, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and two runs. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Stevie Meyer was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Windom's win bumped their record up to 8-5. As for Redwood Valley, their defeat was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-7.

Windom and Redwood Valley could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Minnesota Rankings. The Eagles will square off against Fairmont at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank disadvantage (185 vs. 20). Meanwhile, Redwood Valley (ranked 290th) will meet Luverne (ranked 106th) at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
