Baseball Game Preview: Kellogg Wildcats vs. Timberlake Tigers

The Kellogg Wildcats are taking a road trip to take on the Timberlake Tigers at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Kellogg has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the game with four straight defeats, while Timberlake will come in with four straight wins.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Kellogg and Priest River meet (two straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Monday. The Wildcats fell just short of the Spartans by a score of 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Wildcats have suffered since May 8, 2024.

Meanwhile, Timberlake got the win against St. Maries on Thursday by a conclusive 17-5. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won five contests by nine runs or more so far this season.

Zach Blansfield made a big impact no matter where he played. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (three). He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Timberlake let Ethan Pecor and Ryker Brennan run wild. Pecor scored four runs and stole six bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances, while Brennan scored two runs and stole four bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Pecor continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Eric Wylie also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Timberlake always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .647. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matches.

Timberlake's record now sits at 7-2. As for Kellogg, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-9.

Kellogg couldn't quite get it done against Timberlake in their previous matchup back in April of 2023 as they fell 9-5. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
