Softball Recap: Covington Trojans vs. Oakwood Comets
Covington had lost three straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 3-7 to make it four. They came up short against the Oakwood Comets, falling 12-2. The Trojans were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Comets apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.
As for Oakwood, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-7-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games.
For Oakwood's part, Caydence Vermillion made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Vermillion was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Oakwood got a massive performance out of Emberlyn Schull, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and one triple. Those two doubles gave Schull a new career-high. Bella Bradford was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and one run.
Covington didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, an 8-5 loss against Milford on the 24th. As for Oakwood, they have also already played their next contest, a 14-0 win against Heritage on the 23rd.
