Dynamic duo of Destinee Flores and Avery Backus lead Summit Academy to victory

Recap: Summit Academy Bears vs. Layton Christian Academy Eagles

The Summit Academy Bears won the last time they faced the Layton Christian Academy Eagles, and things went their way on Thursday too. Summit Academy managed a 35-30 win over Layton Christian Academy. The win made it back-to-back wins for Summit Academy.

Leading Summit Academy to victory were Destinee Flores and Avery Backus. Flores scored 13 points along with six rebounds, while Backus scored 14 points along with four steals. Backus is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Regan Georgeson, who scored two points along with five rebounds and two steals.

Layton Christian Academy's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Ava Smith, who scored 12 points along with eight rebounds and four blocks, and Asmin Tanhan who scored six points along with seven rebounds and six steals. Tanhan hasn't dropped below two steals for six straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Sofia Saez, who scored four points along with five rebounds.

Even though they lost, Layton Christian Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Summit Academy only pulled down five offensive rebounds.

Summit Academy pushed their record up to 12-6 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.5 points per game. As for Layton Christian Academy, they now have a losing record at 8-9.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Summit Academy will challenge Providence Hall at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Layton Christian Academy will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Judge Memorial Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on January 23rd. Judge Memorial Catholic has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 289 points over their last four matchups.
