4A Region 2 recap Sept. 26, 2012
Ashford was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from eighth to fifth in 4A Region 2. Earlier in the week, the Yellowjackets triumphed over the Yellowjackets 47-0.
Tallassee moved up to 87 from 182 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Tigers climbed the ranks as a result of a 57-13 win over Headland.
C.J. Duncan and Jonathan Robinson gave St. James a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. Duncan threw for 96 yards and two touchdowns, while Robinson ran for 107 yards. Teammate Duncan added to the ground attack by rushing for 79 yards.
David Winslet provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Beauregard defeated Ashford. He completed nine passes for 174 yards and one touchdown and also ran for six yards. Winslet's favorite target this week was Nathan Langley, who caught three passes for 86 yards.
Lane Blatchford made the biggest impact on defense this week as Alabama Christian Academy fell to Charles Henderson. The 6-foot-2 senior recorded one fumble.
The Hornets' Winslet and Langley have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Winslet has thrown for 652 yards this season, while Langley, a 5-foot-9 receiver, has 10 catches for 297 yards. Duncan from the Trojans leads the league in rushing with 313 yards.
Tallassee extended the longest winning streak in 4A Region 2 this week by beating the Rams, 57-13. The win marks fifth in a row for the Mike Battles Jr.'s team.
