Baseball Recap: Coronado Takes a Loss

Coronado extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 21 on Monday, dropping them down to 0-12. They lost 21-5 to the Yuma Criminals. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Criminals this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-2 on Monday.

As for Yuma, they pushed their record up to 8-7-2 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For Yuma's part, Cesar Anaya looked comfortable as he struck out nine batters over four innings while giving up five earned runs off three hits. Those nine strikeouts gave Anaya a new career-high.

At the plate, Jack Bouts was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Yuma's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-7-2 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Landon Englebrecht, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Coronado will host Cactus Shadows at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. As for Yuma, they will square off against Dysart at 3:45 p.m. on April 7.
