Preview: Provo Bulldogs vs. Mountain View Bruins

After two games on the road, Provo is heading back home. They will take on the Mountain View Bruins at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Even though Layton Christian Academy scored an imposing 57 points on Friday, Provo still came out on top. Provo skirted past Layton Christian Academy 60-57. The win was all the more spectacular given Provo's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 48th, while Layton Christian Academy is ranked fifth).

Provo's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Finn Powelson led the charge by scoring 12 points along with nine rebounds and five steals. Powelson is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jason Carter, who scored 17 points.

Mountain View posted their closest victory yet this season on Friday. They had just enough and edged Payson out 55-53.

Mountain View got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Coleman Pearson out in front who scored 17 points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Pearson has scored all season. Hunter Kaopua was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with two steals.

Provo has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season. As for Mountain View, they pushed their record up to 11-6 with that victory, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Provo ended up a good deal behind Mountain View in their previous meeting back in December of 2021, losing 56-41. Will Provo have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more basketball content.
