Baseball Recap: New Ulm's Win on Tuesday Extends Winning Streak to Six

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but New Ulm ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They won by a run and slipped past the Belle Plaine Tigers 5-4. The victory was just business as usual for the Eagles, who after four games remain undefeated this season.

Tanner Backer was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 11 over 5.1 innings pitched. Backer was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Zach Hubbard was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. Hubbard is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. Kyle Albrecht was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

New Ulm's win bumped their record up to 4-0. As for Belle Plaine, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. New Ulm will challenge Worthington at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Belle Plaine, they will take on Maple River at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
