League recap: Swain County stuns Murphy in upset

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Swain County, who defeated 126th ranked Murphy, 36-27. Ray Smith threw for 140 yards and 4 touchdowns and ran for 57 yards during the win.

The Maroon Devils added to the longest winning streak in 1A Conference 1 this week by beating the Bulldogs, 36-27. This was the team's sixth consecutive win.

Neil Blankenship's team's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. On the ground Spencer McCoy chipped in 200 yards. Jordan Cody helped Swain County's passing attack out by catching 4 balls for 50 yards.

He was 9-13 with 0 interceptions.

McCoy was a passing and rushing force as the Maroon Devils beat Murphy. McCoy's favorite target this week was Kobe Toineeta, who caught 5 passes for 90 yards.

McCoy was the best running back in the league this week. In 17 carries, he ran for 200 yards as Swain County beat David Gentry's team. Blake Wright also contributed to the rushing game with 55 yards on the ground.

Swain County's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Maroon Devils feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Smith has thrown for 1,356 yards and 19 touchdowns this season, while Cody has 31 catches for 552 yards.

An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Robbinsville takes on Hayesville. At the moment, the Black Knights are in second, while the Yellowjackets are in fourth.

Robbinsville took down Cherokee 52-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
