Football Game Preview: Franklin Community Grizzly Cubs vs. Plainfield Quakers

Two dominant backs in Cori Tonte and Luke Starnes are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Franklin Community Grizzly Cubs will head out on the road to square off against the Plainfield Quakers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Franklin Community will be strutting in after a win while Plainfield will be coming in after a loss.

Franklin Community took a loss when they played away from home last Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They walked away with a 28-17 victory over Mooresville. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Grizzly Cubs as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Franklin Community didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Kelvin English and Kellen Fellure. Fellure got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Meanwhile, Plainfield faced Decatur Central in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Quakers received a blow as they fell 37-19 to the Hawks. The Quakers haven't had much luck with the Hawks recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

Franklin Community will have to contain Zander Nattam as he made an impact in Plainfield's last game. He picked up 106 receiving yards and one score. Nattam was no stranger to the big play, cutting upfield on a catch that went for 67 yards.

The victory got Franklin Community back to even at 3-3. As for Plainfield, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 5-1.

Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Franklin Community has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 170.5 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Plainfield struggles in that department as they've been averaging 202.7 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.

Franklin Community suffered a grim 34-13 defeat to Plainfield when the teams last played back in October of 2024. Can the Grizzly Cubs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
