Softball Recap: Cranston East Comes Up Short

Davies Career & Tech hit Cranston East with a four-run fourth inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Thunderbolts fell just short of the Patriots by a score of 7-6. That's two games in a row now that the Thunderbolts have lost by just one run.

Lexi Montalban put in work while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 16 batters over 6.2 innings while giving up four earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, Nevaeh Fatorma was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one double. That double marked the first that she has hit this season. Cydnee Meekins was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

This is the second loss in a row for Cranston East and nudges their season record down to 5-3. Even worse, they were so close both times: the losses came by an average of only one runs. As for Davies Career & Tech, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 6-2.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Cranston East beat the Patriots by a score of 7-3 on Friday.
