Baseball Recap: Central Lake Drops Season-High Score on Suttons Bay

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Central Lake). They were the clear victors by a 14-4 margin over the Suttons Bay Norsemen on Thursday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Trojans considering their one-run performance the matchup before.

Gary Vandenbrook and Grant Miller made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Vandenbrook pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Miller pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave Vandenbrook a new career-high in strikeouts (three). At the plate, Vandenbrook went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and three RBI, while Miller went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jason Kline, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Jameison Pringle was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Central Lake always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .613. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Central Lake's victory ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-7. As for Suttons Bay, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-13.

Looking ahead, Central Lake will be playing in front of their home fans against St. Mary Cathedral at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Suttons Bay, they will head out to challenge Buckley at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
