Softball Game Preview: Lafayette Central Catholic Knights vs. West Lafayette Red Devils

The Lafayette Central Catholic Knights will head out on the road to face off against the West Lafayette Red Devils at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Lafayette Central Catholic has given up an average of 15.4 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Lafayette Central Catholic is headed into Wednesday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Monday. They lost 17-3 to Lafayette Jefferson.

Corinne Zehring made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for West Lafayette, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 12-5 margin over Frontier on Tuesday. Considering the Red Devils have won four contests by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

The team relied heavily on Bree Johnson, who fired off two home runs, four runs, and three RBI while going 3-for-3. That's the most home runs she has posted since back in May of 2024. Cam Wallace also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

West Lafayette kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

West Lafayette now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Lafayette Central Catholic, their loss dropped their record down to 1-6.

Wednesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Lafayette Central Catholic hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .353. However, it's not like West Lafayette struggles in that department as they've averaged .315. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Lafayette Central Catholic might still be hurting after the 14-1 defeat they got from West Lafayette in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Knights avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
