Baseball Recap: North Kansas City Takes a Loss

If North Kansas City was riding high fresh off their 11-1 takedown of Raytown last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Hornets fell just short of the Winnetonka Griffins by a score of 2-1 on Monday. The defeat continues a trend for the Hornets in their meetings with the Griffins: they've now lost four in a row.

Nathan Krueger was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched six innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits. What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024.

On the hitting side, North Kansas City saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aaron Campos, who went 1-for-4 with one double and one RBI. Drake McLaughlin also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

North Kansas City's loss dropped their record down to 1-10. As for Winnetonka, with the victory, they broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 2-7.

Looking ahead, North Kansas City will head out to face off against Park Hill South at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. This will be the Hornets' first chance to prove their worth in the conference. As for Winnetonka, they will host Northeast at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
