Baseball Recap: Crawford County Takes a Loss

Crawford County had lost seven straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 4-16 to make it eight. They lost 11-5 to the Mitchell Bluejackets. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bluejackets this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-3 back in April.

As for Mitchell, their record now sits at 7-13. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For Mitchell's part, Gavin Martin made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Mitchell is 2-1 when Martin allows two or fewer hits, but 5-12 otherwise. Martin was also solid in the batter's box, earning two RBI, two runs, and two stolen bases. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Dason Kerr, who went 2-for-4 with four stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. He has become a key player for Mitchell: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 4-12 otherwise. Cooper McFadden also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Coming up, Crawford County will be playing in front of their home fans against Tell City at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Mitchell, they will head out to challenge Eastern at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
