Soccer Game Preview: Elgin vs. DeKalb

Elgin has gone a perfect 3-0 against DeKalb recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Maroons will face off against the Barbs at 10:30 a.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Elgin has nine straight victories, DeKalb has eight straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the pitch.

Elgin's defense heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They put the hurt on Proviso West with a sharp 8-0 win. Elgin might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by three goals or more this season.

Meanwhile, DeKalb fell victim to Naperville Central and their airtight defense last Thursday. They came up short against the Redhawks, falling 4-0. While losing is never fun, DeKalb can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois soccer rankings (they are ranked 305th, while Naperville Central are ranked fifth).

Elgin's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-0-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 37 goals over those seven contests. As for DeKalb, their loss dropped their record down to 1-11.

Elgin came out on top in a nail-biter against DeKalb in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, sneaking past 1-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Maroons since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
