Baseball Game Preview: Utica Redskins vs. Zanesville Blue Devils

The Utica Redskins will square off against the Zanesville Blue Devils at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Utica will be strutting in after a victory while Zanesville will be coming in after a defeat.

Utica is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Sheridan on Saturday as they made off with a 9-3 win. The Redskins not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since May 13, 2024 (when they won 29-0).

Aidyn Burgess spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Elijah Bland, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Aaron Hays, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs and one double.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Utica kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Zanesville lost 12-2 to Granville on Tuesday. That's two games in a row now that the Blue Devils have lost by exactly ten runs.

Zanesville saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mahki Murray, who went 1-for-2 with one double.

This is the second loss in a row for Zanesville and nudges their season record down to 6-8-1. As for Utica, their victory bumped their record up to 2-8.

Utica was able to grind out a solid win over Zanesville in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, winning 9-5. Will the Redskins repeat their success, or do the Blue Devils have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
