The Chaparral Firebirds will face off against the Mountain Pointe Pride at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Chaparral is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.7 runs per game this season.
On Thursday, Chaparral didn't have quite enough to beat Horizon and fell 5-4.
Kaelyn Moffitt was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one home run and one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mountain Pointe). Everything went their way against Alhambra on Thursday as they made off with a 20-1 win. The Pride have beaten the Lions the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Lions has come to flipping the script.
Lauryn Chavez was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out nine batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Makiyah Johnson and JoJo Castillo did most of the damage at the plate: Johnson went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and one double, while Castillo went 3-for-4 with four runs, two RBI, and one double. Those four runs gave Castillo a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Evita Delgado, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.
Mountain Pointe always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .553. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Alhambra only posted an OBP of .077.
Chaparral dropped their record down to 12-16 with the loss, which was their fifth straight on the road. As for Mountain Pointe, their victory bumped their record up to 9-17-1.
Everything went Chaparral's way against Mountain Pointe in their previous matchup back in March, as Chaparral made off with a 20-3 win. Will the Firebirds repeat their success, or do the Pride have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
