Softball Recap: Ripon Takes Down Woodland Christian in a Playoff Battle

With a playoff win on the line, Ripon rose to the challenge on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Woodland Christian Cardinals with a sharp 11-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Indians, who have now won 11 matches by seven runs or more so far this season.

Angelina Martinez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over six innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Izabelle Spurzem was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Addison Naranjo, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and two doubles.

Ripon kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Woodland Christian only managed six hits.

The victory (which was Ripon's 12th in a row) raised their record to 19-7. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Woodland Christian, their loss dropped their record down to 20-5.

Coming up, Ripon will square off against Livingston at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Indians' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wolves have averaged an impressive 9.3 runs per game this season. Woodland Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
