Recap: Churchill County Greenwave vs. Fernley Vaqueros
On Wednesday, the Churchill County Greenwave faced the Fernley Vaqueros in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Churchill County had to suffer through a rough 77-23 loss at the hands of Fernley. Churchill County has not had much luck with Fernley recently, as the team's come up short the last six times they've met.
Jada Anastasio was Churchill County's leading scorer, having posted nine points.
Karlie Simper held things down on the boards with five rebounds.
Fernley's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kaiserita Otuafi, who scored 17 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. Another player making a difference was Taylor Tollestrup, who scored 14 points along with three blocks.
Churchill County's loss dropped their record down to 14-5. As for Fernley, their victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-1.
Churchill County on the road again on Friday and play against Dayton at 6:00 p.m. on January 19th. Hopefully Dayton focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 29 on Wednesday. As for Fernley, they will stay at home for another game and welcome Lowry at 6:00 p.m. on January 19th. Lowry is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
