Football Game Preview: Chewelah Cougars vs. Newport Grizzlies + Official Tickets

Chewelah is 0-5 against Newport since October of 2015 but things could change on Friday. The Cougars will venture away from home to challenge the Grizzlies at 7:00 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Friday.

Chewelah took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They blew past Davenport 54-14. The Cougars' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

AJ Kent went supernova, rushing for 431 yards and six scores while picking up 19.6 yards per carry.

Kent was just one part of a punishing run game: Chewelah was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 437 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Newport put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. Their defense stepped up to hand Reardan a 43-0 shutout. Given the Grizzlies' advantage in MaxPreps' Washington football rankings (they are ranked 79th, while the Screaming Eagles are ranked 205th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Newport's record now sits at 8-0. As for Chewelah, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-7.

Chewelah took a serious blow against Newport when the teams last played back in November of 2024, falling 37-0. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
