Basketball Recap: Mabel-Canton Starts Season with Defeat at Home

Mabel-Canton unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They had to suffer through an 86-46 loss at the hands of the Southland Rebels. The Cougars have struggled against the Rebels recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Several Cougars players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kale Eiken, who went 5-for-9 en route to 13 points. Eiken has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Isaac Underbakke was another key player, shooting 56% from the field to rack up 10 points and three steals.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Mabel-Canton is set to square off against their familiar foe Schaeffer Academy at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Southland will face off against rival LeRoy-Ostrander at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
