Recap: Kellenberg Memorial Firebirds vs. St. Anthony's Friars
The Kellenberg Memorial Firebirds had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 25 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They strolled past St. Anthony's with points to spare, taking the game 61-47. For Kellenberg Memorial, this counts as revenge for the 72-40 defeat St. Anthony's walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2023.
Several Friars players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Tom Snyder, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds. Those 11 points set a new season-high mark for him. Chris Welling was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Even though they lost, St. Anthony's were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Kellenberg Memorial's win was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-0. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.8 points per game. As for St. Anthony's, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-4.
Kellenberg Memorial will stay at home for another game and welcome St. Mary's at 7:30 p.m. on January 9th. St. Anthony's won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Malverne at 6:30 p.m. on January 6th.
