Softball Game Preview: Mountain Crest Mustangs vs. Fremont Silverwolves

Mountain Crest is 0-10 against Fremont since March of 2016 but things could change on Thursday. Mountain Crest will welcome Fremont at 3:30 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Mountain Crest managed to slip by Bear River the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. Mountain Crest came up short against Bear River on Tuesday, falling 20-3. The Mustangs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Mountain Crest saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sage Walker, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI.

Meanwhile, Fremont was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They lost 12-5 to Salem Hills.

Jessica Broadbent and Savannah Palmatier stepped up to the plate in a big way. Broadbent scored a run while going 3-for-4, while Palmatier scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-4. Broadbent has been hot recently, having posted three or more hits the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Cara Henrie, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

Even though they lost, Fremont kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 12.4.

Mountain Crest's defeat dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Fremont, their loss dropped their record down to 1-10.

Thursday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Mountain Crest hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .330. However, it's not like Fremont struggles in that department as they've averaged .339. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
