Softball Recap: South Newton Find Success

South Newton took a ten-run loss the last time they faced off against Milford, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Rebels skirted past the Bearcats 6-4. For the Rebels, this counts as revenge for the 13-3 victory the Bearcats walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

Briley Iseminger made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. Those 13 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cora Groover, who went 2-for-3 with one triple and one run. Lizzie Corbett was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases.

South Newton now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Milford, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-3.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. South Newton will host Benton Central at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Milford, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Clifton Central at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
