Basketball Recap: Mcqueen Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Brooklyn Pimpl and Jaleigh Fred

McQueen was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their ninth straight loss. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 53-48 heartbreaker at the hands of the Carson Senators. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Lancers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 48-30 back in December of 2024.

McQueen's loss came despite strong showings from Jaleigh Fred and Brooklyn Pimpl. Fred went 7 of 11 on her way to 15 points and three steals, while Pimpl went 5 for 6 en route to 18 points and seven rebounds. Pimpl is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games.

Even though they lost, McQueen smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 14 offensive rebounds in three consecutive matchups.

Carson found their leader in freshman Ashlan Smokey, who posted 14 points and three steals. The dominant performance gave Smokey a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Lauren Finnerty, who earned ten points.

McQueen's defeat dropped their record down to 3-16. As for Carson, their win bumped their record up to 7-10.

McQueen didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 51-45 loss against Galena on the 22nd. As for Carson, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 52-27 defeat against Spanish Springs on the 20th.
