Basketball Recap: New Braunfels Takes a Loss

New Braunfels suffered their biggest loss since December 3, 2024 on Tuesday. They were beaten by the Pieper Warriors 70-42. While losing is never fun, the Unicorns can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 279th, while the Warriors are ranked 38th).

Despite the loss, New Braunfels still got an impressive performance from Ryler Wilson, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten boards. Wilson has been hot recently, having posted nine or more rebounds the last three times she's played. Alyana Mcgarity was another key player, going 5 for 10 on her way to 14 points.

Pieper found their leader in sophomore Kayla James, who went 8 of 12 on her way to 16 points and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points James has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kai Stratton, who went 5 of 7 on her way to 13 points.

New Braunfels is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 15-14. As for Pieper, they are on a roll lately: they've won 15 of their last 16 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 19-5 record this season.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Wagner the next time they take the court. Pieper will head out to face Wagner at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, while New Braunfels will head out to face them at 6:30 p.m. on January 14th.
