Baseball Game Preview: Myrtle Hawks vs. Biggersville Lions

The Myrtle Hawks will head out to square off against the Biggersville Lions at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. Myrtle will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.

While Myrtle didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-20), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They blew past Strayhorn 12-1 on Thursday. The Hawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matches by nine runs or more this season.

The team relied heavily on Eli Crumpton, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI and one triple. That triple was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Hunter Davis, who scored two runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Myrtle was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Biggersville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They came up short against Hatley, falling 13-0.

Myrtle's record is now 5-2. As for Biggersville, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-4.

Biggersville's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Myrtle has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .453. It's a different story for Biggersville, though, as they've only averaged .315. Will they be able to contain Myrtle's hitters?

Myrtle might still be hurting after the 13-1 loss they got from Biggersville in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. Can Myrtle avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
