Recap: Clay Blue Devils vs. Oakleaf Knights
The Clay Blue Devils's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 43-7 loss at the hands of Oakleaf. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Clay in their matchups with Oakleaf: they've now lost six in a row.
Despite the defeat, Clay saw an underclassman step up: Gino Addison rushed for 85 yards and a touchdown.
Oakleaf's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Da?Jon Brown, who rushed for 107 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries. Chris Foy was another key contributor, rushing for 93 yards and a touchdown on only 11 carries.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Clay to a paltry 225 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Oakleaf's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid the passer out three times before it was all said and done. Anthony Smith was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two sacks himself.
Clay has yet to win a contest at home this season, leaving them with a 4-6 record. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 16.3 points per game. As for Oakleaf, their victory ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-6.
Clay does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Oakleaf also has no future games currently scheduled.
