The Frontier Mustangs will take on the Tonkawa Buccaneers at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Frontier will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
Frontier had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Glencoe on Monday. The Mustangs blew past the Panthers 17-7. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won six matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Noah Farmer made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Luke Draffin, who went 1-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Lane Thompson was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Tonkawa ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Newkirk 9-8. The Buccaneers haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Cayden Duvall was excellent, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Conner Dewitt, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two RBI.
Frontier's win bumped their record up to 8-11. As for Tonkawa, their victory bumped their record up to 15-7.
Thursday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Frontier has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .444. However, it's not like Tonkawa struggles in that department as they've averaged .432. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Frontier came out on top in a nail-biter against Tonkawa in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, sneaking past 8-7. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Buccaneers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
