Football Recap: Hilton Head Island Picks Up Ninth Consecutive Victory

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Hilton Head Island had no problem doing just that on Friday. They blew past the South Aiken Thoroughbreds, posting a 52-24 victory. Winning may never get old, but the Seahawks sure are getting used to it with their ninth in a row.

Hilton Head Island's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Derrick Raniszewski, who threw for 271 yards and three TDs while completing 87.5% of his passes. Those 271 passing yards gave Raniszewski a new career-high. Thaddeus Czarnecki helped Raniszewski out on the ground, rushing for 84 yards and three touchdowns on only nine carries.

Hilton Head Island didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited South Aiken to a completion percentage of just 42.9%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from five players: Jayvin Risher, Jeremiah Walters, Justice Morris-Jones, Jeremy Garvin, and Louis Gadson, who each logged one passes deflected. Hilton Head Island has been improving in that area: they had allowed a completion percentage of 0.65 earlier this season, but they've only allowed one of 0.65 in their last three games.

Despite the defeat, South Aiken saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Kaeleb O'Berry rushed for 110 yards and one score on only nine carries. O'Berry has become a key player for the Thoroughbreds: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least 100 rushing yards, but 3-5 otherwise.

Hilton Head Island's record is now 10-1. As for South Aiken, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 5-6.

Coming up, Hilton Head Island will challenge Wilson at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 961 yards in their previous games. South Aiken does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
