Baseball Recap: Yazoo City Comes Up Short on the Road Against Vicksburg

Yazoo City kicked off their season on the road on Saturday and hit a couple of potholes. They fell just short of the Vicksburg Gators by a score of 18-17. Sadly, the defeat continues a streak the team started last season, making it five in a row.

Melvin Robinson was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in five of his six plate appearances. What's more, he posted two hits, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Anthony Ingram Jr., who scored four runs and stole two bases while getting on base in five of his six plate appearances.

The win got Vicksburg back to even at 3-3.

Coming up, Yazoo City will square off against Greenwood at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Vicksburg, they will take on Brookhaven at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Vicksburg is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season.
