Football Recap: Stroudsburg Takes a Loss

Stroudsburg dropped to 1-2 on Friday, ending the team's four-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season. They had to suffer through a 49-17 loss at the hands of the Liberty Hurricanes. While losing is never fun, the Mountaineers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania football rankings (they are ranked 209th, while the Hurricanes are ranked 84th).

As for Liberty, they now have a winning record of 2-1. They haven't had any issues with Stroudsburg recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

A big part of Liberty's win came down to the chemistry between Antonio Fontanez and his top target Jake Pukszyn. Fontanez threw for 317 yards and six TDs while completing 81.2% of his passes while Pukszyn picked up 159 receiving yards and five touchdowns. The dominant performance also gave Fontanez a new career-high in passer rating (161.5). Gabe Green helped Fontanez out on the ground, rushing for 104 yards and one score on only seven carries.

Looking ahead, Stroudsburg will head out on the road to take on Emmaus at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Liberty, they will face off against Northampton at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The contest will give the Hurricanes their first taste of in-conference action this season.
