Softball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Athens

Athens entered their tilt with Hartselle on Tuesday with three consecutive wins , and they'll enter their next game with four. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured an 8-7 W against the Hartselle Tigers. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Golden Eagles have posted since February 27th.

Camry Townsend tossed a big game, tossing 6.1 innings while giving up four earned runs off eight hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Lily Lowery, who went 4-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in hits. Another player making a difference was Amaya Green, who scored three runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

Athens' win bumped their record up to 13-5. As for Hartselle, their defeat ended a seven-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 6-7-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Athens will face off against Decatur at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Hartselle, they will take on Thompson at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Thompson's pitching crew has only allowed 1.8 runs per game this season, so Hartselle's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
