Streator takes loss despite strong efforts from Shantell Morton and Ava Gwaltney

Recap: Streator Bulldogs vs. Prairie Central Hawks

This season hasn't been kind to the Streator Bulldogs, who are still winless after their 17th match. They had to suffer through a rough 44-11 loss at the hands of Prairie Central. Streator was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 25-4.

Streator's loss on Friday came despite strong showings from Ava Gwaltney and Shantell Morton. Gwaltney scored seven points, while Morton scored no points along with 12 rebounds.

Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Streator struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Prairie Central posted 15 assists.

Prairie Central found their leader in underclassman Abi Nimbler, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds and five assists. That's the first time this season that Nimbler scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lucy Whitfill, who scored nine points along with 12 rebounds.

Streator's defeat dropped their record down to 0-17. As for Prairie Central, their win bumped their record up to 2-14.

Streator will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Lisle at 7:00 p.m. on January 4, 2024. Lisle has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 198 points over their last three games. Prairie Central will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Rantoul at 7:00 p.m. on January 4, 2024. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Illinois (Rantoul is ranked 603rd, while Prairie Central is ranked 619th).
